Due to COVID-19, the Pelican Women’s Championship has been rescheduled for November 16 - 22, 2020. The below information, links, and plans were submitted for the original May date and will be tweaked for the new schedule over the coming months.
The Town of Belleair is excited to host a Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tournament at the Pelican Golf Club in May of 2020. This tournament will bring the greatest female professional golfers in the world to the Pinellas County area while showcasing the beauty and serenity of our town.
Please note that the Pelican Women’s Championship is a private event to be hosted on private property. The Pelican Golf Club has hired Eiger Marketing (a professional event company) to manage this event. Eiger is responsible for developing and implementing all tournament plans. While the town is involved with permitting, public safety, and communications, we are not in any way running this event.
In order to best inform our residents, the Town is sending letters and posting to social media to distribute key information about the Pelican Women’s Championship.
This communication includes dates and times for two upcoming public hearings regarding the event, where we will encourage feedback from the community on the plans presented. Both of these meetings will be held in the Belleair Town Hall Auditorium (901 Ponce de Leon Boulevard).

Additionally, the Commission established a temporary LPGA Ad Hoc Advisory Committee of Belleair residents to assist with the planning of the Pelican Women’s Championship. Following the March 18 meeting, there are currently no meetings scheduled for this group.
We understand this event will bring an influx of attendees to Belleair and many of you have expressed parking as a top concern. In preparation, staff has consulted with Eiger Marketing and worked diligently to draft a plan which minimizes parking within town.
Please use the link below to see the current draft of the event’s parking plan. As explained in the document, attendees will park in lots located in Largo or Clearwater and then board shuttles that drop them off at the Pelican Golf Club. These shuttles and any rideshares will drop attendees off outside the event entrance at the intersection of Poinsettia Road and Golfview Drive.
Complimentary bike racks will be located on Golf View Drive approximately one hundred yards away from the main entrance.
Proposed Parking Restrictions within Belleair
We hear and understand your concerns about parking for this event, and have worked with Eiger Marketing to draft a plan that presents the least possible impact. In this plan, minimal parking for vendors, staff, media, players, and emergency responders will be available in designated locations in town, but parking will largely be prohibited on streets surrounding the course.
To accommodate exceptions, residents with a legitimate need to park on the street during the tournament will be able to contact the Belleair Police Department for a temporary parking permit. More information on this permitting process will be released in April following feedback from the community and the Commission.
For now, we encourage you to view the draft of the "Traffic Control Plan" which displays proposed parking restrictions in town. This document is not yet finalized, as it will be reviewed by the community and the Commission at upcoming public hearings. The dates of these hearings will be set shortly and included in communications to the public by Friday, March 13.
Residents will begin to see tournament setup activities in late April, as temporary seating and facilities will be placed on the course in advance of the tournament.
The tournament itself will run from Thursday, May 14 through Sunday, May 17, with a pro-am on Wednesday, May 13. Thursday’s through Sunday’s competition will include live coverage on The Golf Channel. Activities will begin each morning at 7:00 am and wrap up with sunset, per the schedule available at www.pelicanlpga/attend.
All grandstands and other temporary facilities will be deconstructed and removed from the Pelican Golf Club by Wednesday, May 27.
Eiger Marketing has created a tentative site plan for the event that displays the event’s entrance and major components. This map is subject to change prior to the event.
Q: Will there be any road closures during the tournament?
A: The only road closure will be Poinsettia Road from the four-way stop east to Hibiscus Road, as this segment will serve as the entrance to the event. This area will be closed starting Thursday, May 7, and will re-open Tuesday, May 19.
Q: If I live on the course, will I be able to see the tournament from my property?
A: Yes, and the tournament encourages you to watch from your home and enjoy the views. Fences or walls will NOT be installed to block the view from your home.
Q: Can I list my home on Airbnb, Vrbo, or other sites for tournament attendees?
A: No. Short-term rentals are not allowed in Belleair under any circumstance, as they are forbidden in our town’s Code of Ordinances.
