Deputy Mayor Tom Kurey
Biography
Deputy Mayor Tom Kurey and his wife, Kim, purchased their Belleair home in 2010. However, Deputy Mayor Kurey has been coming to the area his entire life as his grandparents moved to Belleair in 1965. He spent his childhood in upstate New York before moving to the Milwaukee area in the middle of high school. His professional life took him and Kim to Chicago, Boston, and Wilmington, Delaware before their move to Belleair. They have always wanted to live in Belleair and are proud to call it home.
Deputy Mayor Kurey had not run for public office prior to being elected Commissioner in 2016. He was reelected in 2019 and selected as Deputy Mayor by the Commission in 2021. He is honored to represent Belleair’s residents and views our community as our greatest asset. He welcomes the opportunity to engage and work with residents in an effort to ensure a strong and independent Belleair, to protect and preserve our wonderful community, and to further the Town’s premier reputation in Pinellas County and on the west coast of Florida.
Deputy Mayor Kurey graduated with distinction from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, majoring in accounting. He subsequently worked in the public accounting industry. He then graduated with honors from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, with concentrations in finance and business policy (strategy). Deputy Mayor Kurey subsequently worked at a number of both public and private investment firms as an analyst, portfolio manager, chief financial officer (CFO), and board of directors member. He currently has his own investment firm in Belleair – Clearwater Advisors, LLC.
Previous Experience
Deputy Mayor Kurey has served as Commission Advisor for the Historic Preservation Board. He has also served on the Town of Belleair Finance Board and Police Officer Pension Board.
Other Activities
Deputy Mayor Kurey has volunteered at numerous Town of Belleair events. He serves on the Morton Plant Mease Health Care Foundation Board of Directors, as well as on the Foundation’s Finance and Investment Committees. He is on the Finance Committee for his Church, and is the Chairman of the UCEF Investment Advisory Committee.
